Help cleaning for the physically disabled

Spring cleaning can be a workout. To dust your surfaces, sweep under them and buff your countertops and tables to a lovely shine, you need some level of strength and range of mobility.

Or, at least, that’s what many people think. The truth is, spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a strenuous activity. The use of the right products reduces the amount of time and physical stress you spend cleaning (and can even make cleaning easy and beneficial). Whether you are physically disabled or need to protect yourself from overly arduous activities, it’s time to be strategic about your cleaning routines.

Here’s what you need to know.

Spring Cleaning Made Simple With Easy to Use Cleaning Tools and Products

Our primary home-cleaning hack is simple: Select products that work hard for you — so you don’t have to. Want more detail? These tips are our go-to’s for effective cleaning without all the effort:

Use products that don’t require lots of scrubbing. Here’s the thing: Your surfaces aren’t as strong, durable and impervious to damage as they might look. Even if your stone surfaces are made of the toughest natural material out there — granite, for instance — they’re still porous. They’re still susceptible to damage, particularly if you wear them away with harsh cleaning chemicals and lots of elbow grease. (Think about the process of erosion wearing away canyons over millions of years, and you’ll get the picture.) Fortunately, all that effort isn’t even necessary — just select products formulated to take care of grime for you.

Dryer sheets can help with more than just laundry. After a strategic suite of stone-care products for your countertops, we recommend investing in dryer sheets. Why? They can help lift stubborn dirt from pots and pans and pick up dust effectively instead of moving it from surface to surface. Just don’t use these sheets on your stone surfaces; instead, keep a soft microfiber cloth on hand for buffing out your countertops and floors.

Get extra toilet brushes and long-handled mops. A second toilet brush can be your go-to for cleaning bathtubs and sinks without having to bend over. Long-handled mops can help you get into all of the corners of your floors from a comfortable, safe position. Think of these tools as extensions to your arms; They bend and wiggle into position, so you can focus on a posture that’s safe for you.

Allow your products the time they need to do the work. If we’re cleaning in a hurry, it’s easy to get into a routine of spraying a surface, wiping it and walking away. In reality, solutions formulated to erase grime and enhance shine will likely need a minute or two to work their magic. Make sure to use your cleaning products according to manufacturer recommendations. As an added bonus, taking your time will make your cleaning routine even more low-impact for you or your loved ones.

Seal your stone surfaces. If there’s one step to take to make your everyday cleaning more efficient, it’s making sure you seal your natural stone regularly. Doing so will help create a barrier between your porous stone and your everyday activities (including spills, stains, and more).

Make sure you have a professional on standby to provide help when you need it. Stone is durable and will work well with a low-maintenance cleaning routine, but sometimes you will need additional assistance. In the case something needing additional attention arises, we recommend relying on trained and certified stone care technicians to diagnose any issues with your floors and countertops before fixing them in the most long-lasting and effective ways possible.

Ultimately, cleaning with mobility issues or different abilities is all about choosing to clean smarter, not harder. Stock your cleaning caddy with products that do the heavy lifting and let them facilitate your work.
