3 Steps to Care for Your Granite and Stone Surfaces

Granite Gold Products®

I remember the first time we walked through our home. The ceilings in the front room and bedroom were high, the carpet was white (yes, older people lived here before us and didn’t have kids – hence the white carpet) and the counters were made of granite. I love granite countertops! I love the way they look and feel. While we love the way they feel, it’s also very important to care for them the right way. Many homeowners install granite, marble and other natural-stone surfaces, such as countertops, for their beauty – adding that WOW factor and conversation piece that guests notice when they walk into the kitchen. However, that gorgeous shine can be only maintained by a rigorous process, not just from applying wax.. Check out these 3 Steps to Care for Your Granite and Stone Surfaces.

3 Steps to Care for Your Granite and Stone Surfaces Step 1 – Clean.

The first step is to clean your granite or stone surface. Did you know that the overspray from common household cleaners, including glass cleaners, can damage natural stone surfaces? This can lead to costly repair and replacement. With Granite Gold All Surface Cleaner®, you’ll get an all-surface cleaner that can do it all and works on stone surfaces, stainless steel, glass, mirrors, brass, cooktops and more.

Step 2 – Seal.

The second step is to seal your granite or stone surface. Sealing granite countertops and other natural-stone surfaces is made simple with Granite Gold Sealer®. This easy-to-apply spray-and-wipe stone sealer creates a barrier to protect all natural stone. Frequent use of the water-based stone sealer maintains maximum surface protection against staining, etching and soil build-up. Regularly check the integrity of the seal with an at-home water test. Pour water (about 3 inches in diameter) on the surface in several locations and let it sit for 30 minutes. If you see a dark mark or ring, the water is penetrating the stone and it’s time to reseal. Step 3 – Polish. Before Granite Gold® was created, the brand was often asked for advice on how to polish marble, granite and other natural stone. Now you can quickly and easily enhance the shine and luster of your granite, marble and other natural-stone surfaces. This granite polish also works great on quartz surfaces such as Silestone, Corian and Cambria. Regular use after cleaning with our granite cleaner, Granite Gold Daily Cleaner®, will bring out stone’s natural beauty and provide ongoing protection against water spots and fingerprints. Polishing shower walls and tub surrounds will help prevent soap scum build-up. Do not use on floors, which can become slippery. These Granite Gold® products are available nationwide at Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Amazon. You can also find a store near you by using this store locator.

About Granite Gold®

Because they are a company created by third generation stone care experts (with knowledge stemming back to the 1950’s), they put a high priority on consumer education in efforts to spread stone care knowledge to homeowners everywhere. Their emphasis is polishing, but their core message is always the three essential steps to caring for natural stone- clean often, seal frequently and polish regularly. It is also important to know the process in which a stone’s natural shine undergoes, begins when it’s first quarried from the earth’s surface. These 40,000 pound stone blocks are taken to a factory for processing, where then a giant gang saw using diamond blades slices the blocks into a calibrated thickness. Next they are sent over to a polishing line where they pass under diamond polishing heads that apply thousands of pounds of pressure per square inch. Here, finer and finer grits bring out the natural polish of the stone and slabs are then bundled and shipped to your local stone manufacturer and installer to be further cut to a homeowner’s needs. It’s this factory finish that enhances their inherent characteristics — veins, swirls, crystals — prior to installations.
